The
Heart of the Valley YMCA is one of more than 800 YMCAs nationwide participating
in Step-tember, a month-long celebration encouraging members of the
community to take “small steps” to promote active living and healthy
eating.
The
prevalence of overweight/obesity has increased dramatically across
the nation and is now an epidemic. This initiative is
especially crucial in Alabama,
recently ranked 3rd with the highest obesity
rates for adults. The effects on our children, families, and
communities are far reaching—but they can be prevented and they are
reversible.
The
concept is simple:
- Add an extra 2000 steps (roughly 1 mile)
to your day
- Choose a smart way to eat 100 fewer
calories each day
