On a sunny and perfect morning April 17, 119 volunteers from all walks in the community banded together for a single purpose: to do battle with eyesore-creating trash at Ditto Landing in South Huntsville. The group picked up 250 bags of trash weighing 1,500 pounds.
The annual Ditto Cleanup Day is organized as a Togetherhood community action project by the Southeast Family YMCA and Huntsville City Council President Dr. Jennie Robinson, District 3. The City of Huntsville Operation Green Team provides tools such as trash bags, gloves and trash pickers (those long-handled grabbers that save backs when picking up small pieces of paper and other refuse) and convenes volunteers and staff to help with the effort. Ditto Landing Executive Director Brandi Quick rounds out the partnership and brings the Ditto Landing community to the effort.
The 2022 date for the next Ditto Landing Beautification Day will be announced.
