The YMCA’s Togetherhood initiative provides Y members the opportunity to give back to the community through volunteering and community service. On Saturday, May 7th, 125 volunteers of all ages and from all parts of the city and county participated in the clean-up day and collected 100+ bags of litter, striped 40 parking spaces, pressure washed 200 linear feet of sidewalks, cut up 2 trees on the walking trail, planted 400 annuals, replaced 40 feet of lumber backing rub rail, and replaced 50 feet of rub rail.
The Southeast Family YMCA partnered with several organizations, including Operation Green Team, Keep Alabama Beautiful, Huntsville City Council President Pro Tem Jennie Robinson, and Brandi Quick, Executive Director of Ditto Landing. Other partners included: VFW Post 2702 who participated as a part of their inaugural VFW National Day of Service, Christy Beck of Model Environment who brought an upcycled plastic bottle boat and team of kayaks to clean the waterways, Huntsville Hospital Young Professionals, Boy Scouts of America Troops 70, 83, 321, 343, 364, 350, Pack 70, Sea Scouts 999, and the Row Huntsville Team.
A special thank you to Kim Payne of Jersey Mike’s on Whitesburg Drive for providing all of our Togetherhood volunteers with a coupon for a free sub and for being a supporter of the mission and impact of the YMCA.
