Ages 13 & up will learn personal water safety, achieve basic swimming competency and build stroke techniques. Water Acclimation (Stage 1) increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance. Water movement (Stage 2) encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently. Water Stamina (Stage 3) develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances. Stroke Introduction (Stage 4) introduces basic front and back crawl strokes and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke. Stroke Development (Stage 5) introduces breaststroke and butterfly and reinforces water safety through treading and sidestroke. Stroke Mechanics (Stage 6) refines swim technique on all major competitive swim strokes and encourages swimming as a part of a healthy lifestyle.
Program runs from July 7, 2018 to July 28, 2018 at Craig and Steven Hogan Family YMCA.
